Nulife By Design’s CEO and founder Mrs. Carolyn Walker-Lewis is passionate about education. She has over 20 years of experience with at risk youth both paid and volunteer. She served as the Educational Liaison for the lead CBC in circuit 5 for 3 years. I have had 5 years in the Juvenile Justice System, as the Education Manager and 15 years in Special Education as a Teacher. She hold a Masters in Administration of Educational Programs from Nova Southeastern University, and a Bachelor from an HBCU, Benedict College. She is also the founder of Strands of PEARLS a nonprofit mentoring program for at-risk teenage girls.

As an educator, she realized that the students of today faced far greater challenges than did children of older generations. Some students face Issues such as school violence, home violence, HIV/ AIDS, low self -esteem, and poverty, and hunger daily. It was evident that the events of their personal lives took precedence over learning. As impoverished youth approach their teens, external social factors, related to living in poverty, hinders their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development resulting in low school achievement. Children through no fault of their own struggle cognitively and behaviorally because their parents used drugs like cocaine and Meth during their pregnancy; This silent frustration manifested as serious behavior problems and classroom disruptions, that negatively affect the entire learning environment.

As a teacher and administrator, she became frustrated and disheartened she was limited, her hands were tied there was only so much that she could do.

Then one day she had an epiphany and decided that as a case manager she could better serve not only the students, but their families as well.
